Wednesday & Saturday Play Protocol

When you have signed up for a Wednesday or Saturday Mens Club golf tournament, here is a guideline for streamlining the process-

On arrival

Please go to the tournament check-in table which is usually located inside the restaurant. There you will pay for your entry fee and have the option of buying into the gross skins, net skins and Hole in One pots. These are individual pots and they are optional. At check in and if needed, they will have the tournament format sheet or notify you of any course conditions that you need to be aware of. Please treat Reni, Sandi and Marci like queens, as they are an enormous help in making our tournaments so successful.

Next, head to the Pro Shop and pay for you green fees. Also, check to make sure they are on time.

Plan to give yourself at least 30 minutes to take care of tournament check-in and green fees.

Driving range, you can pull in the range parking lot and hit balls before checking-in or grab a cart after your tournament check-in green fees are paid and head over and hit balls. Either way, plan accordingly.

On the course It is extremely important that you keep pace with the group in FRONT of you and not behind you! The course management is adamant that 18 holes of play is accomplished in 4.5 hours or less. So please play ready golf including moving on to the next tee box before entering scores on the scorecard. Fill your divots and repair your ball marks on the greens. It is our responsibility to help keep the course in good condition, so when you are filling in your divot or repairing your ball mark, don’t be shy about filling or repairing another one you see.

After the round

Each foursome will have an official scorecard. In addition, another scorecard should also be keep, that way scores can be double checked within the group. On the 10th tee box confirm the front nine scores match on both scorecard, this will speed up the process of totaling the final scores after play has been completed. Also, if there is a game going on within the group, please do not use the official scorecard for this. Lastly, before dropping the official scorecard off at the scoring table or scorecard box, make sure the scorecard is signed and attested. Once this is done all scores on the official card can not be changed.

Cancellations- Once you have signed up for a tournament, it is your responsibility to show up. We understand that emergencies or plans change, and if that happens up to the day before the tournament, you need to contact the Tournament Director for the tournament that you signed up for. This gives them the opportunity to modify the tee sheet and let the Pro Shop know of the changes. If you need to cancel the morning of the tournament, you will need to contact the Pro Shop directly and let them know. Failure to do so can result in suspension from future tournament play or being responsible for your green fees.

2025 Rate Increases

As of November 15, 2024 there will be a membership renewal increase of $11.00. This small increase is in conjunction with the SCGA raising their yearly member rate on each member of our Men’s Club. Some of this additional cost will allow the Board of Directors to continue operating the Club in the manner that you all have come accustom too, while the other portion of the increase will go directly to the SCGA.

Although no one likes spending more, please keep in mind that this is the first membership renewal rate that the Men’s Club has incurred in 8 years and basically breaks down to less than $1.00 a month. We appreciate your continued support of your Men’s Club and look forward to another great year in 2025!

Regards, San Juan Hills Men’s Golf Club Board of Directors

Fireball

The format for the Saturday, September 6th tournament is the “Fireball”. This is a 4 man team event played from the tournament tees. The “Fireball” format is:

Each team will get a red golf ball with your team number on it. The team will decide what holes they want the 4some to tee off from.

Player 1, holes 1,5,9,13,17 Player 2, holes 2,6,10,14,18 Player 3, holes 3,7,11,15 Player 4, holes 4,8,12,16

The net score from the red ball and the best net score from the other 3 balls will be the score on that hole. The red ball must be turned in with your scorecard to qualify for tournament payouts. If you lose the red ball during course of play, continue to play out the round in order to have a posted score and to play for skins.

****No fore caddying……………..all players must remain on the tee box until the 4some has teed off****

Letter from the President 2022

Golf Club Members

We are heading into Fall again with shorter and hopefully cooler days ahead. Your board members are continuously working, mostly behind the scenes but also on Tournament days, which start early and continue till the last players are done. If you’ve played in any of the tournaments it’s a great experience, simple in appearance but a lot of details behind the scenes needed to pull it all together. From announcing the next tournament, create the postings with the signup and outline of the rules, managing last minute Tee sheet changes. Scorecards need to be printed specific to each event as well as updating Golf Genius to manage scoring. The day of Tourney starts early with Sign-in, then when Tourney ends posting and verification begins in order to determine flight payouts to club and skins to individuals.

We meet monthly to go over finances, review past tournament results and plan for upcoming events. We work with Golf Course Management ( Pro Shop and Food + Beverage) in order to coordinate our event schedule, which includes our major tournaments, in order to work around green punching, private tournaments and banquets which can conflict with our standard scheduling. We do all this for the game we enjoy so much.

This is the time of year that our Men’s Club by-laws state that we have to notify all members of next year’s Board of Directors which has to be posted by 10/10/22. There is no term limit to stay on the Board, some existing Board members want to continue on for another year, and a few feel it’s time to step down and become a player again. The Board is a mix of new and old in tenure with some positions vacant and need filling.

I’m reaching out to all Men’s Club members to consider becoming a SJHMGC Board member. The main vacancy currently is Saturday Tournament Director along with other positions possible. Some long standing Board members would stay but if good option available would like to stand down.

You can contact any Board member via email, most Saturday mornings many are playing early am, we’re easy to find or contact to answer any questions you might have.

Members! It’s time to consider joining the SJHMGC Board and be a working part of your men’s club. New Board members bring fresh ideas which is so omportant to make course corrections for the future of our club.

Thank You

Sincerely,

Walter Knack

SJHMGC President
